Registering a move to or within Leiden

Are you planning to move to the municipality of Leiden or are you moving within the municipality? You can register your move up to 4 weeks in advance.

Did the municipality receive your change of address more than 5 days after your move? Then the date on which your data was received will be registered as your moving date.

This is what you need

  • Are you moving to a rental or owner-occupied home? Please enclose: a copy of your purchase or rental contract in your name.
  • Are you moving to a rental or owner-occupied home? Please enclose: a copy of your purchase or rental contract in your name.
  • Are you going to live with someone? Please enclose: residence permit form (pdf, 51 kb) and a copy of the ID of the main resident.
  • Are you moving to an institution or care home, but do you not have a rental contract in your name? Please include: the confirmation letter from the institution or nursing home.
  • Are you reporting your move without DigiD? Then you must also send a copy of your valid passport or ID card.

Report your change of address online

The easiest way to report your change of address is to do this using DigiD. Can’t you do this? Then use the form below the drop down window: ‘Report your change of address without DigiD’.

How long does it take?

From the moving date, it takes the following time to process the data:

  • Online, for a move within Leiden: 1 working day.
  • Online, for a move from another municipality to Leiden: at least 3 working days.
  • In writing: 5 working days.

N.B.: The change will only be processed from the moving date.

Costs

There is no charge for registering a change of address.

Are you unable to report your move with DigiD? Or do you not have a DigiD? Then you can report your change of address in writing. You’ll allways need:

  • The form Report change of address.
  • A copy of your valid passport or ID card.
  • A copy of your rental- or purchase contract registered in your name, or:
  • A copy of the confirmation letter from the nursing home or institution (if you are moving to a nursing home or other institution, and do not have a rental contract in your name). .

You sometimes need:

  • The form Permission to move in filled in and signed by the main resident of your new address (if you are moving in with someone else).

Send the form by post

Fill in the form and send it together with the other documents to the municipality of Leiden, PO Box 9100, 2300 PC Leiden. Or hand it in at the counter of the municipal office (Stadskantoor).

Send the form digitally with the contact form

Will you send the form digitally with the contact form? Don’t forget to send the ‘Report change of address’ form as an attachment! Without this form we cannot process your change of address.

Have you registered a change of address? Then the municipality will check the new data to prevent errors and address fraud. Do you want to check at which address you are registered? You can do this using your DigiD at MijnOverheid (in Dutch). You will then receive confirmation at your new address.

Personal Records Database (BRP)

The municipality of Leiden will process your new address data in the Personal Records Database (BRP) (in Dutch). This database contains general personal data that the Government uses to provide various services. Do you want more information on how the municipality uses the Personal Records Database and how to review your own registration? Take a look at the page Information in the Personal Records Database (BRP).

Address investigation

Is someone wrongly registered at your address? In that case, the municipality can launch an address investigation. Contact the municipality by phone via the number +31 – 71 5 16 51 65.

Postal address

Do you not have a permanent domicile or residence? Or are you residing in an institution? Then you can register at a postal address in the municipality of Leiden under certain conditions. Read more at Postal address (in Dutch).

Would you like to know more about informing the municipality of a change of address? Then take a look at the government’s website: Rijksoverheid. Here you can read, for example, who is allowed to report a move.
