Applying for a waste or container card
In Leiden city centre and the surrounding districts there are (underground) containers for household (residual) waste. A container card (waste card) enables you to use the underground waste container. The container card works for all waste containers within 500 metres of your home.
- You can request 1 container card per household.
- Have you moved in and did the previous resident not leave a card in the house? Request a new pass for free.
- Is your container card lost or broken? Apply for a new card (€ 12,60).
- We will send you the new card within 4 working days.

Frequently asked questions
Per household you can request only one waste card. You cannot apply for extra cards, even if you pay.
If more than 4 people live at one address who do not form one household (like in a student house), it is possible to request an extra container card. For example: if 16 students live in one house, a maximum of 4 container cards can be requested.
Leave the container card behind when you move.

If you request a replacement card, your old card will be blocked. You will not get a refund if you find your old card.
