Visiting the Stadskantoor

The Stadskantoor, the Municipality of Leiden’s offices, is in located in the LEVEL building. This is the large, modern building next to Leiden Central Station on the LUMC side. Our visitors’ address is: Bargelaan 190, 2333 CW Leiden.

Location

Directions

  • If your visit takes less than an hour, you can leave your bicycle in the outdoor parking facility next to the LEVEL building. You will find this parking place at the short side of the building, LUMC side. Also mopeds and scooters can be parked here. Take care you do NOT park your bicycle in the LUMC bicycle parking. Then walk to the main entrance (see map).
  • If your visit is for more than an hour, leave your bicycle, moped or scooter in the bicycle parking beneath the LEVEL building (see map). Take the same stairs back outside and walk towards the Stadskantoor main entrance.

Please note: a bicycle parking policy is in force around the Stationsgebied (station area). Bicycles, mopeds and scooters that are not stored in the bicycle parking facility will be removed.

  • Walk through Leiden Central Station to the exit on the LUMC side. You will need an OV chip card (public transport card) for this.
  • When you leave the station, the LEVEL building is on your immediate left.
  • Take the entrance on your left and walk straight ahead until you arrive at the Municipality of Leiden’s offices.

There are three walking routes from the centre.

Via the station

  • Walk through the station to the exit on the LUMC side.
  • When you leave the station, the LEVEL building is on your immediate left.
  • Take the entrance on your left and walk straight ahead until you arrive at the Municipality of Leiden’s offices.

There are various options to get through the Leiden Central Station barriers.

With an OV chip card (public transport card)

You can get through the barriers if there is sufficient balance on your card (€ 10 or € 20 depending on whether you have a season ticket). If you check in and out within 60 minutes, there is no charge.

If there isn’t enough balance on your card you can load a free, one-off ‘passage product’ on your card at an NS ticket station. You can use this product to walk in and out of the station within 60 minutes on the day you added the product to the card.

No OV chip card?

Please visit the NS website to see whether it is possible for you to request a ‘passage pass’ for residents. Whether that’s possible depends on how close you live to the station.

Via the Joop Walenkamp tunnel

  • The LEVEL building is on your right as you leave the tunnel.
  • Take the main entrance (see map).

Via the Rijnsburgerweg tunnel

  • Turn left onto Bargelaan when you leave the tunnel.
  • Walk straight ahead until you see Leiden Central Station on your left. The LEVEL building is immediately after this.
  • Take the main entrance (see map).

The closest car park is the LEVEL car park. This is paid parking. For more information including parking charges, please visit Parking Centrum LEVEL Leiden.

The spacious entrance with revolving door allowed everyone to enter the Level building and therefore the city office. If you come out of the back of the station (Ramses Shaffyplein/Bargelaan) and turn left towards the LEVEL building, this is the entrance you will encounter first. Unfortunately, the revolving door has been broken for some time. The owner of the Level building has replaced the revolving door with an emergency door, which is not easy for everyone to open.

Main entrance to the temporarily out of use

The main entrance is now finally being repaired. This means that this entrance cannot be used from January 6 to the end of February.

We indicate the temporary route and entrance with signs.

  • During the work you can use the revolving doors on the side of the building.
  • Do you use a walker, mobility scooter or wheelchair? Or do you have a stroller with you? Then you can enter through the emergency door. It will be opened when you ring the bell.
  • Do you enter the building via the parking garage? Then nothing changes.

If all goes well, the main entrance can be used again from the beginning of March!

Toilets

There are toilets in the building that are suitable for people who use a wheelchair, walker or mobility scooter. Babies can also be changed here.

Parking

The LEVEL parking garage has parking spaces for people who have a disabled parking card. Lift B is also suitable for people who use a wheelchair, for example. Here, threshold aids have been installed at the thresholds that are too high and you only have to push the door handle down to open the door. The door does the rest automatically. This is paid parking.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a lanyard for people with a hidden disability. Wearing the lanyard discreetly alerts people in the area that the wearer may need extra support, help or some more time. Our employees at the counter know what to do when you are visibly wearing the lanyard.
You can pick up the lanyard for free at the Stadskantoor.
