16/3/20 - Schools, childcare centres, catering establishments and sport clubs will be closed
On Sunday, March 15, the Cabinet announced that primary and secondary schools, childcare centres, catering establishments and sport clubs will be closed through Monday, April 6, to prevent further spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) as far as possible.
Declaration by Mayor Henri Lenferink: “The impact of the new measures on our society is enormous. Children will not be going to school for the next three weeks, catering establishments and fitness clubs will have to close their doors – and in addition you will be asked to keep physically apart from each other. The measures affect everyone in Leiden. Let us look out for each other. The elderly or vulnerable neighbours may need your help.
All catering establishments and for example sport and fitness clubs were shut down yesterday.
No matter how radical all the measures are, try to keep calm. The schools and childcare centres will remain open for children whose parents work, for example, in healthcare, the police or public transport. The shops will ensure that they remain supplied, so panic buying is not necessary. Let us ensure that enough products remain available in the shops for everyone.
We are all going through an unusual period that will affect everyone’s life. The coming weeks may seem unreal for everyone and perhaps tense. I trust completely that we can weather this together.
You undoubtedly have a lot of practical questions. RIVM, GGD, the schools and the municipality are doing everything to keep you informed as best as possible. You can find many answers on these websites.”
