Adjusting data in the Personal Records Database (BRP)

Is your data in the Personal Records Database (BRP) no longer accurate? Then the municipality can change or delete data in the BRP at your request. You may want to do this, for example, if you have been adopted or you wish to change your gender or delete it from the BRP.

Changes

Adoptive children or parents, carers or guardians of an adoptive child can have the following data changed or removed:

  • name
  • mother or father
  • nationality
  • address data from before the adoption

You can also have your gender removed or changed in the BRP:

  • name
  • gender
  • use of the surname of your (ex-) spouse or (ex-) registered partner

To submit a request

Do you want to change or delete data about adoption or gender in the BRP? Then submit your request by letter or use the general contact form.

Counter appointment

Would you prefer to do this in person? Then you can call to make an appointment: +31 – 71 5 16 51 65. Take a valid identity document with you.

Take the following documents with you or send in

The correct data and documents that prove your identity.

How long does it take?

No fixed processing period. The municipality often depends on other organisations – for example, it may be necessary to check data in another country. The official who processes your request can give you an estimate of the time it will take.
